Entrepreneurial Roots

Brian’s business development career began with a small, creative agency in New York.   Still, in his early 20's, he tucked a portfolio under his arm and reached out to new clients, including opening a relationship with General Electric that would engage the firm for years to come.  From there, Brian moved to an entrepreneurial post at a 500+ person, Midwest marketing services company pioneering integrated marketing.  He learned how to create opportunity from whole cloth, including all aspects of the development process from lead qualification to close.

Business Development is People Development - 17 Years at J. Walter Thompson

JWT first established "new business" as a professional discipline in its London office, expanding the function across offices.  Brian was one of the first North American leaders recruited to the role of "Business Development Director."  He created a comprehensive program while being mentored by the firm's senior leaders. Brian learned how business development and nurturing overall agency talent are inseparable.  His success in this role blossomed into a 17-year career at JWT, including serving as the company's Executive VP/ Global Business Development and the youngest member of JWT's Global Leadership Team. Brian’s work at JWT culminated in a four-year stint as President of the firm's Chicago office.

GSW & inVentiv Health - Growing a Healthcare Marketing Agency

Brian first formed his own consulting company in 2002, and one of his first clients was a healthcare marketing group, called GSW Worldwide, part of a small holding company called inChord.  The consulting assignment quickly resulted in Brian joining the firm full-time.  During a ten-year career at the company, Brian built a program that helped fuel dynamic growth. He also navigated change, as inChord merged into a public company, which became Syneos Health, now operating in 110 countries with over 23,000 employees.

Resource/Ammirati – Growing a Values-Driven Company

Through the mergers and acquisitions, Brian realized the company he helped to grow, had changed around him.  So, he joined an independent, digital agency of 300+ people.  As chief growth officer, Brian worked with the team to write the latest chapter in a 30-year success story.  Five years into his tenure, but as a result of all the cumulative passion and growth over the years, the company attracted the interest of IBM and joined the IBM iX digital studio network, comprised of 40 global studios and 16,000 employees.

Embracing Change at IBM iX, and Growth Through Digital Reinvention

Early in the integration into IBM iX, Brian saw an opportunity to apply lessons learned in managing multi-office integrated business development programs, to create a custom capability for the IBM iX North American group. This integrated BD team quickly took hold, building a pipeline of opportunity fueled by clients' investment in digital reinvention.  Brian’s team improved the quality of new business deliverables while significantly boosting close rates.  Brian’s approach demonstrated to IBM leadership that strong fundamentals, and a disciplined approach fuel growth in organizations, big and small. Following this success, Brian was named the go-to-market leader for IBM iX in North America.
